The Pridelets Files for October 4
On this day in 1913, novelist E.M. (Edward Morgan) Forster writes the last words of the book "Maurice," a romantic and daringly funny tale of the Maurice Hall's isolation, acceptance, and both intellectual and spiritual growth as a (gasp) homosexual. The "Publishable, but worth it?" manuscript remains on Forster's shelves and not his editors until his death in June 1970. The work is not seen by the public until 1971, at Forster request. And it receives not only critical and public acclaim in in the exploding modern gay renaissance both in England and stateside, but as a Merchant Ivory film production in 1987 starring James Wilby, Hugh Grant and Rupert Graves.
